About Me

First, thank you so much for stopping by!

My name is Melissa Ferguson.   I am wife to Travis, mom to Amanda, Noah and Ryan, teacher, school counselor, TV enthusiast, and perpetual seeker of information.  I love learning and sharing new information with others. I love lists and planners, goals and challenges. In my mind, I am a runner, but in reality I just run to various restaurants because I LOVE eating out! I like to challenge the status quo, but get uncomfortable breaking rules (quite a conundrum).

I spent the last seven years teaching Kindergarten and just transitioned to the role of School Counselor.  I was humbled by being awarded Teacher of the Year at my previous building and awarded a Toyota of Rockwall Innovative Teaching Grant, to support my efforts to bring more movement into my classroom.  In addition to teaching Kindergarten and 4th grade in the public school setting,  I have also taught Pre K and 1st at a private Christian School and a 3rd/4th transition class in a private Special Education school.  All of the opportunities that I have had in the classroom, have worked to prepare me in my new role as school counselor.  As I have said before, it is the sum of all our parts that better equip us to serve those in our care 😊.

Through out my years in education, I have had so many amazing opportunites to grow and learn. From helping to impelment the  Leader in Me program on campus, to helping craft and pilot our districts first standards based report card.  It has been an fantastic journey that has recently shifted trajectory into direction, that three years ago, I did not see coming!  Thus confiming to me, that everyday is a new adventure and no tomorow is guaranteed.

When I am not working, you can find me reading, watching sports (gymnastics, tennis or volleyball, sleeping, shopping, pinteresting (is that even a word?!?!) or watching Netflix, Amazon Prime or any other system that either, doesn't have commercials or lets me skip through them.  My family LOVES having movie nights, especially if it is a Harry Potter marathon, complete with Butter Beer and Polyjuice Potion.  If you couldn't tell we are Harry Potter nerds!
She was so excited to get her own wand (yes, that is my 16 year old)

We got our letters!  We are going to Hogwarts!
Again, thank you so much for stopping by!  I am so glad you are here and I can't wait to learn from each of you!
